Pigs Nose Pink
When Renegade founder, Warwick, wanted to describe the colour he envisioned for our new wine to the winemaking team, he used the phrase, "You know, pale pink, like a pig's nose." To further clarify his vision, he sent over a series of images of pigs noses he found through random internet searches.
One pink nose became the focus, and this pig was front of mind during much of the winemaking process. As every pig has a story, Warwick wanted to find out more about the pig behind the nose. On further investigation our search led us to a pig defined as "Nose 1" on a website. Warwick got in touch with the farm and loving the unusual, Martin, Chief Animal Lookerafeter and Carer thankfully responded. This was followed by a long phone call.
I'm sure it's not every day that you get a call from a winery asking to learn more about a pig whose nose has captivated a winemaking team. It was incredible to learn about Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary. Such a phenomenal project and really shows how a few people can do incredible work for hundreds of animals.
What makes the whole thing even more unbelievable is that Brigitte (and the other animals) lives only a few miles away from where the grapes for this wine were grown. Both are products of the Crouch Valley in Essex. Out of every photo of every pig on the internet, what are the chances that the pig we'd choose would live only miles from where the grapes were grown? 1 in a billion? It must be fate....
Martin was also willing for the team from Renegade to head over to the sanctuary to photograph and get to know Brigitte. We were also joined by the legend that is Marcus from Picnic Magazine. A talented photographer and lover of all things interesting in the food and drinks world.
Martin had one important question though before he'd let us in the gates. "Will Pigs Nose Pink aka Brigitte be a vegan wine?". Yes, is the answer. All the Renegade wines are made without the use of any animal products.
More to come on this story as it develops but in case you love Brigitte as much as us and want to support Martin, Fiona and their incredible project, you can by clicking the below.
